Martyr - One who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause, or principle.



SO I was really inspired by `zemotion's recent photography work with the woman and I really wanted to incorporated this into my art somehow. So I picked Artemisia (and later Albrecht) to portray this.

In my mind Artemisia is somewhat like a Martyr in a sense that she'll die for a cause--in this case is the purpose of clearing her family's name. She probably prefers not to die though to be able to do everything to fix it all--however she is also in a very grey area which means she can go great lengths and even walk down dark paths to get where she believes she has to get to. So Artemisia to me has a chance of crossing over to become someone rather dark--more so than her brother. She does it all for a good intention of protection and honor, even if she does suffer from her conscience getting angry at her for it.

She hasn't crossed over to the dark pathways yet--but with the right nudge and push she could.

in this one she reminds me of the English queen elizabeth I or the scottish queen Mary who got headed by her
